Boutique of the Week - Material Girls

After finding the adorable boutique Riffraff through bloggers I was on the search for more places to shop! I found so many different boutiques, with amazing clothes and accessories. After clicking and purchasing a bunch of pieces, I thought I should share with my blog readers! Every week, hopefully each Sunday, I'll feature a Boutique of the Week.

I found Material Girls through Allison, the fabulous blogger behind A Little Bit of Everything. I immediately clicked over and saw great pieces at great prices!! I called one of their store locations to save my credit card information, and now I can comment on their facebook albums when I want them to ship an item to me.

My first purchase was this cute top! I wore it last week with skinny jeans and brown boots. It is so comfy and I love the boho feel of it.

I called another location to check on availability of this cute tank. The salesgirl was extra helpful and even pulled the yellow tank to layer for me. Can't wait for this one to come in the mail!

I ordered this shirt too. It's a pink-ish gold, more of a rose gold. I love the sparkle it has in the stripes.

Kappa Delta Love

If you've been a reader of mine for awhile, you'll know that in college I joined a sorority, Kappa Delta. It was so much fun and rewarding. Joining KD truly shaped who I am as a woman through the ideals which are embedded in my life, the friendships I have which will truly last forever, and the amazing Kappa Delta love which is still part of my life today.

I still participate with Kappa Delta, as an advisor for a collegiate chapter. It is so much fun! I am also the president of my local alumnae chapter, which hello!? Is just the fun sisterhood and social like college!

This weekend I am attending a Kappa Delta leadership training with the collegiate chapter I advise. I am excited to meet all the other Kappa Delta advisors!

There is also the opportunity to shop the Kappa Delta boutique, and I'm hoping to recreate this adorable look :) I mean what weekend, especially a sorority weekend, would be complete without a little shopping??

With Valentine's Day around the corner I've been enjoying all the mushy, love that's out there.

My Valentine was so sweet to me already. For my Masters graduation he gave me this framed picture. It is my favorite of us from our recent trip to Hawaii. We were out paddle-boarding and my brother caught this shot from shore. I love it.

1. What is your favorite candy and why?

Chocolate! Any kind of chocolate really. I'm a big fan of chocolate covered espresso beans.

2. Who has influenced your faith the most?

My parents. Although I would say my friends and especially boyfriend too. I love having discussions with my boyfriend about faith and our beliefs, how they have evolved from our childhood beliefs.

3. Are you a shower at night person or shower in the morning?

Morning! I love to start the day this way.

4. What is your favorite meal to cook?

I love to make pasta with veggies and sausage. Of course I have to have a glass of wine while cooking.

5. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to shop!! Although if you follow my blog I think you know that :)

6. What is the best gift that you've ever received?

My dad gave me my grandmother's engagement ring. It's gorgeous. It means the world to me.

7. If you could vacation with anyone, who would it be?

I would go with my boyfriend! We would go on a European adventure. We both love to travel and explore and have so much fun together.

8. What's the best book you've ever read?

9. Where would your dream house be located?

On the beach...

10. Who was your favorite teacher?

I loved my 4th grade teacher. She made things fun! I loved when she read to us...

11. What's your dream job?

Personal shopper! I love to shop!! I think it would be so fun, but I would need to spend my paycheck immediately.

Although really I would love to be a stay at home mom. I love to take care of family, love planning out trips, parties, and just having time to spend with my future children.

Or even a party planner!

Poskmark App - Buy & Sell Fashion

Have you heard of the amazing app Poshmark?! It's a brand new - in December - app for buying and selling clothes and accessories. They also have "parties" where sellers virtually upload onto themed boards to sell. One of the parties was also a live - IRL - party, too bad I had a prior commitment that night, but I'm ready for the next LA Posh Party!!

I randomly found this app through some other bloggers on twitter and downloaded the free app. I saw some adorable pieces and thought I'd try to sell some of the things I have hanging in my closet, not getting any love. I uploaded the pictures, added a brief description, and listed my jacket. It was sold within the week!! How about that?!

Of course I turned around and decided to purchase a couple cute pieces from other sellers. I clicked my way onto these two cute bracelets. Poshmark even worked to help combine the shipping on them. I received my pieces over the weekend and love them!!

Here are the other pieces I'm selling...

The app allows you to "like" items which saves them on your profile for future access.

You can also ask and answer questions through commenting on the listings.

I can't wait for them to have a search feature! But they're new, so I understand :)

What fashionista doesn't love a great deal!? I love to shop the flash sale websites for designer fashions, like Hautelook. This site has designer sales for about 3 days. The discounts are crazy - up to 90% off at times! I love the thrill of grabbing up a gorgeous piece for a fraction of the price.

Here are two pieces I'm loving from their sales this weekend.

These boots are amazing! I don't know that I'll ever have a place to wear them, but aren't they gorgeous?! And only $70, down from $170!

This wrap cardigan is a great staple piece for any wardrobe. I love that it is available in white, black, charcoal, and even in a poppy red! It's originally $58 and now only $21!!

Besties Date

Today I had a hang out and have fun date with a bestie!!

Here we are as Princesses at Disneyland :)

Now we're all grown up and she has an adorable little one!

Today the three of us all hung out. We had lunch, chatted about everything, and even went on a very successful and silly trip to Target (there were singing and dancing stuffed animals involved!)

I purchased a couple cute new things...

We're also crazy ladies and planning a trip to NYC!! We're going for the BlogHer12 Conference. Any of you fabulous ladies going too? We can't wait!!

1. What is your favorite movie?

I love romantic comedies! Girlie and funny movies are the best.

2. Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, or Diet Pepsi?

Diet Coke all the way. I'm really bad and will sometimes start the day with one instead of coffee!

3. If you could relive one day of your life, when would it be?

Not really sure about this one...maybe just a fabulous day on the beach from my recent trip to Hawaii.

That reminds me that I still need to do a hawaii recap!

4. What is your go-to meal?

I love nachos! I could literally eat them for multiple meals a week. Delish!

5. Do you have a quote that you try to live by?

6. Where do you like to shop?

I love to shop!! I'm loving little local boutiques these days. My newest find is Riffraff, which you can read about here. I also like Forever 21, Nordstrom, and H&M.

7. What would be your dream vacation?

Paris! A romantic European vacation...

8. How do you relax and de-stress?

I shop! :) I love to read, blog, watch trash reality TV, drink a nice glass of wine, laugh with friends...

9. What are your favorite books?

I love Chick Lit!

I love books that you can get lost in.

10. What does your normal day look like?

A normal day starts around 5:30 or 6. I get ready and drive to school. I work there with K-5 students until about 1. Then I have a few hours to grab lunch, run errands, just relax. Then I'll either go over to an after school program I work with part time. Or I might head over to Kappa Delta to help with the girls I advise. Around 7 I'm home and will have dinner with my boyfriend. We'll usually watch something we've DVR'd during the week. Then when I realize I've been up for way to long I call it a night.

What girl doesn't love a great unique dress or cute top? I know there are fabulous finds at the regular places, like Nordstrom, Forever 21, and Piperlime. Although it's fun to get new pieces from local boutiques. I recently found Riffraff. It's adorable!! They're a boutique in Fayetteville, Arkansas, but you can purchase pieces from their facebook page here.

Making our House a Home

This week's pinterest pins area all about decor for the home! My boyfriend and I have been slowly filling up our condo with new pieces and here are some pieces we're still hoping to add.

We plan on buying this bar table and putting shelves above like the following pictures. I love how the wine glasses are stored below the floating shelves.

We need to buy curtains for a sliding door in our living room. I'm thinking of getting some like in this picture. I love the detail at the top and the white will add some lightness to our dark pieces of furniture and dark floors too. I'm even trying to convince the boyfriend that we should do a built-in near our fireplace too, but that's definitely not a priority yet.

In our entryway we need to get a table, and I'd love a mirror too. I'm having a hard time finding a table that's the right height though, any suggestions?

I'm loving this headboard. I also like that there's no dust ruffle on the bed. We're looking for fabric headboards like this one.

This table we actually purchased from Urban Home. I love the piece, but the customer service was a bit of a nightmare.

Here it is at the end of the hallway. Now we need to add a gallery wall above with pictures of our families. The books and other touches are a work in progress.

Here's a cute sorting lesson I found from Mrs. Carroll at The First Grade Parade. I thought reviewing the sounds each make and sorting would be simple. Too simple?

Disneyland

This Saturday my family, along with my boyfriend, went to Disneyland. We had a lot of fun, despite the freezing cold, well cold for SoCal anyway :)

Since we had free tickets and go often we were only there for the afternoon.

Here we are after a delicious lunch at the Blue Bayou. Have you ever eaten there? It's the restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

We had put up our Christmas tree this week too, so we picked up this cute ornament for it. Perfect for Kenny since it's the little Pixar lamp and he's an animator.

And of course the picture in front of the castle. I have a picture with my family too, but it's not on my camera, so I'll have to add it later. Just after our picture was taken we noticed a couple next to us getting their picture taken and then he got down on one knee and proposed! It was cute.

It was a fun little trip. We rode The Haunted Mansion, Star Tours, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and had lunch. Can't wait to go back :)

It's a hard thing to do, isn't it? Having someone that you truly have loved to have as a friend, but they have changed and are no longer a true friend or even really someone that you may feel like you know at all.

I feel like we've all been there. A great friend, even someone you may consider a best friend or sister, has changed and strayed completely from who you used to know. There's nothing wrong with changing and growing, but sometimes that means you've grown and changed in a way which means you are no longer in each others lives.

Even when you think of that person now, there are times you want to reach out, but is it something you should do? Or just remember the times you shared, the laughter at all hours of the night, the fun you had? It's hard to let go of some friends, but keeping the memories and hoping they're well is all there is to do now...

Cheese & Bacon Potato Skins

Cheese & Bacon Potato Skins

These are so easy to make! Definitely try them for the next football game or tailgate. I whipped them up this weekend while watching football. So delish!!

Makes 8 pieces

1 potato

shredded cheddar cheese

3 slices of bacon

1 T melted butter

salt & pepper

Bake the potato at 400 for 40 minutes.

Cook 3 pieces of bacon til crispy.

Cut the potato into 1/2 inch slices, approximately 8 total.

Drizzle on melted butter to each piece.

Salt & pepper to taste.

Top with cheese and bacon pieces.

Bake for 10 minutes on 400 or until cheese is melted.

Let me know if you try these.

Today I'm loving my new purchases! I had a generous gift from the parents during teacher appreciation week last spring, along with Veteran's Day sales and a coupon code these two goodies are shipping to me for just under $20!! I can't wait to get them!

I've wanted a food processor for awhile now, so I'm excited to find all the fun ways to put it to use.

And as for this waffle iron...I'm pretty sure it makes me an old lady to be buying appliances instead of a new pair of heels :) But I can't wait to get it either! I'm thinking waffles with ice cream!!

Science Week - Favorite Science Books

It's science week!!

Here are my favorite books to teach science...

I love these because my students have always loved the "real" stories they include. They are great resources to connect the textbook to "real life". Great for text on the student's grade level too.

I think picture books are great to give students access to science curriculum at their own level, just so it makes sense.

Everyday at work I find out I have new job responsibilities. It's exciting to be teaching so many different grades and groups of students, but it can be a little overwhelming as it first begins.

Teacher Tuesday - My Classroom

I've been setting up my classroom!! I actually share the space with another reading teacher who is part time. There is a 3rd teacher still needing to be hired... I am the full time reading teacher and I coordinate the three of us with our groups. We teach K-3 and I can't wait to get all of the initial assessments completed so we can start working with the students!!

Here are some pictures of my classroom. These are from when I first walked in to now, although there are a lot of things that still need to be added, I'm so happy with the progress I've made!!

New Recipes

I've been pinning so many great looking dishes lately on Pinterest. This week I finally started to whip some up! So far I've made this delicious Blueberry Cream Cheese Danish

And this easy stuffed shells recipe, although I went without the pesto, still yummy!

This week I'll also be making calzones, fried ravioli, and a taco ring! Can't wait to share how those turn out :)

Totally Terrific Transitions
A bookmark designed for helping students with writing. A fabulous co-worker of mine in 3rd created this great resource. My students loved it and would pull it out all the time during writing to utilize it. We also kept a running record of transitions we found while reading.

Pizza Vocabulary
This is another adapted vocabulary practice. It can be used along with stories, vocabulary of the week, math terms, anything! Just have students fill out each section. I have also saved these in a student folder so they can refer to them throughout the school year.

It is easy to get overwhelmed with everything there is to do. Ask other teachers in your grade level for their ideas and suggestions. Ask your friends and family to help out with setting up your class or easy projects. There's a lot to do and it takes a lot of time to get it done, so keep your sanity and get help!!

I always wanted things to be perfect (let's be honest, I still do!!), but remember that sometimes it's ok just to let the "wrong" font be on the project, or not have the perfect border on the bulletin board. The time you save on making things just perfect will go a long way in keeping time dedicated to lesson planning for the students.

I got the job!! I'll be a reading specialist at a K-5th school for the 2011-2012 school year!! I'm excited and can't wait to start training, planning, and teaching!!

My Birthday!

I posted before about the plans for my birthday, but here are the pictures from the weekend!

Emily came up and we spent the day shopping! We had a delish lunch at Mexicali and even got a free round of margaritas since it was my birthday! :)

We all headed out to Swill Automatic, which is a wine bar that you use prepaid cards to get tasters from the machines of wine...

It was a lot of fun! The waiter brought us extra tasters and drinks too!

Me and my lil sis Lindsay

Me and my friend Melissa, she's pregnant and just the cutest momma-to-be!

Blowing out the candles on the most delicious chocolate dessert. Kenny was sweet and brought candles to the restaurant to surprise me with...awwww!

The next day we headed out to Palm Spring... The hotel we had picked out, that looked amazing in photos, was horrid!! The place was simply run-down. There were doors without numbers and instead the room numbers written straight onto the wall. The elevator was a scary disaster, so we took the stairs to find doors without handles! The pool was nice enough, but the water was dirty!! And they ran out of towels. Needless to say we will not be staying there again...

Although we did go out to a delicious dinner!! Aldente Pasta was the perfect birthday indulgence.

We ordered wine, of course, and spumoni! I love that ice cream...

Can you tell it's still so hot, even at night? My cheeks were red!!

The next day we packed up, checked out, and headed to a hotel we had stayed at before. We enjoyed drinks and lunch at the pool. It was much nicer, much cleaner. Lesson learned, go with what you know!! :)

Over-all I had a fabulous birthday filled with family, friends, and lots of fun!! Can't wait to do it all again next year :)
